Netter

Introduction

Netter is an application that makes it possible to interactively schematize one- dimensional model systems, such as river basins, road networks, utility lines and so forth. Netter enables one to schematize one-dimensional networks and two- dimensional grids and therefore Netter enables you to prepare simulation model schematizations from geographic maps.

Netter is based on the Demis Map Engine and has been developed in close co-operation with WL | Delft Hydraulics.

Though Netter will offer you a wide variety of possibilities and features, you will still need consultancy in order to use Netter properly.

Features

Netter allows you to interactively schematize one dimensional model systems. The schematization consists of a network of nodes connected by branches. The nodes represent objects according to the type of schematization. The branches allow transport between the nodes. The network is superimposed as an extra layer on top of a background map.

 

The core feature of Netter is that it separates the geographic editing and visualization part from the editing of attribute data of the network elements. Netter provides a versatile interface and tool box for editing the geographic features of any network. In order to edit the network elements attribute data special, data edit clients need to be developed using a DDE or OLE interface. This allows simulation model developers to create their own data edit applications.

Another core feature of Netter is the different ways for visualization of time dependent network data. In contrast with popular Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Netter has been designed with time as an important feature, since simulation models often run over long time series (multiple years). For example: it is possible to create animations in which the direction of transport is shown with an arrow and the magnitude of the transport is shown using a color and/or thickness of the branch.

You can even record the animations directly in a Windows AVI file for playback. Netter provides you with visualization of:

  • Network layers

  • Geo-referenced bitmap (raster) layers

Product overview

Netter provides many different models with a geographic editing interface. These include more than twenty different water management, road traffic and air quality simulation models. In some cases support consists of a filter for reading and writing model specific network definition files, in other cases also the interactive editing of network element attribute data is supported through DDE or OLE coupling with Netter.

Demis can provide a data edit framework for any simulation model. The framework can then be expanded by your programmers to meet your simulation model's specifications.
